I've always been intrigued by the British entertainer/medical charlatan Dr. Walford Bodie, M.D.

Ricky Jay's Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women has an entire chapter on Bodie.

Any thoughts on the 'good doctor?'

My mother, vera laxton, played with a young girl at Dr Bodies House in Gloucester Taerrace Paddington London W2. My mother is 88 and bright as a button. She played with the Dr's pet monkey. She saw the Sing Sing chair every time she walked through the hallway. She has a signed card from him and has many memories, such as the time he looked magnificent when he and his young wife were dressed as King Charles 2nd and nell Gwynne for a fancy dress party.
I am her daughter valerie Weathersbee.

I love anecdotes from people who met the names of the past or had brushes with them.

I knew an old-timer (Rubini) who was once a guest of Cunning (a Houdini competitor) after Houdini's demise. Rubini said he was talking about Houdini's many contributions to magic and escapology when the disgruntled Cunning growled, "Shut up or get the h--l out of here!"
Rubini realized he had hit the ultimate sore spot and shut up.
