So the other day I started my Sophomore year of college. Anyways I am in the honors program and one of the classes I am taking is "Honors Intro to Social Research." Now on the first day we were told that we need to come up with something that interests us to do a research project on. Yesterday in class she went around the room asking what everyones ideas were. When it got to me, I explained how I was really interested in why people play "skill based games" they know they will lose (ie Three Card Monte, Proposition bets, the three shell game, carnival games, etc). And I was explaining how it fascinated me why people do this because you never win unless the operator wants you to. Well one guy a few rows ahead of me said cockily that he could find the card, its not so hard. I happened to have some cards with me prepared for three card monte (non gaffed) so I told him that I bet he couldn't. Well it was pretty funny, he swaggered over to my row and watched me mix the cards up (mind you I did a really simple one to start out) and he immediately chose a card. It was absolutely hilarious when I flipped it over and showed that he found one of the jokers.

Made my day and I figured you all might get a kick out of it =]

Beautiful. I would have ended by asking him why he felt compelled to play that game or if he wanted to be the subject of the project. Then I would have immediately turned around and asked if that could count as the project. That would have been fun.

Thats a good idea! Unfortunately as I finished, the class ended as well. However, I think that my quick little demo might've helped my project idea be one of the possible ones we choose =]

I really hope that we can do this project. I have been obsessed with Simon Lovell's book "How to Cheat at Everything (or Billion Dollar Bunko)" along with shows such as the Real Hustle with R. Paul Wilson. I feel that between those two resources alone, I could provide a wide number of scams for us to try =]
