Hi guys, I rarely get to go to any real magic shops and i'm going to my aunt and uncle's house in a town called Lake Forest (right near orange county) to help them move up hear (Central Valley) on monday. I was wondering if anybody who lives around there might know of a magic shop or two. It's more of a touristy place than here where i live so i assume they might have one. Well thanks in advance to anyone with any info.

Lake Forest. Is that by Lake Arrowhead? You can always go to Downtown Disney if you are going to be in the OC. Check out Magic Masters, they are expensive but they are still a magic shop. It is more of a tourist magic shop, selling rising decks and nickles to dimes but you may find it enjoyable anyway.

Best Magic is in Anaheim, Ca. It will be a bit of a drive from Lake Forest. Also, you might want to check out Hollywood Magic. There's a store in Hollywood, Ca. and there used to be one in Newport Beach. Best advice I can offer up, is to look through the Yellow Pages once you arrive and see if there are any Magic shops close to Lake Forest.

I know there is a small shop in the Irvine Spectrum if you know where that is. It's Houdini's Magic shop and it's a little pricey but whatever.

Houdini’s at the Irvine Spectrum is gone now. I was there 3 weeks ago and the store front is empty. Irvine is right next to Lake Forest.

There was a magic shop in Westminster inside of all places, a bowling alley. (I was there in 2005, so check the telephone book and call them).

Even though the telephone book still says Hollywood Magic annex is in Newport Beach, that is long gone.

If your family takes you in to Hollywood, there is the World Famous Hollywood Magic.
If your family does in fact plan a trip to Hollywood, I could arrange for you to have Saturday or Sunday Brunch at the Magic Castle. (That is based on the availability of their reservation schedule – PM me if you are interested in going).

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Sucks to hear the one in irvine spectrum is gone, That would have been pretty close. I'm definately going to check the phone book and i'll probably go to Anaheim. Is there actually a store called "Best Magic" or are you guys just saying it's the best? Wildheart, thanks for the tip about westminster and the Magic Castle offer, Unfortunately I will only be there monday tuesday and part of wednesday.

"Best Magic" is where i have been going to for the last 10 years...Gordon runs a professional shop that is interested in magic...not money.
It is a shame that you havn't visited actual brick and mortar magic shops...as they are always better. But i understand that the internet is taking over and will soon run real magic shops out of business.
don't bother with houdinis...though i read they were gone from the spectrum...or downtown disney or disneyland..they only offer inflated prices on nothing really...the downtown disney shop is a kiosk....houdinis will sell knock offs for a 50% markup....and the disneyland shop will sell you a hotrod for 20 bucks.

best bet is "best magic" in aneheim...." merlin mooses magic attic" is in the same area...and has really good prices and a laid back atmosphere...they have a small shop located inside the "mainly seconds" store...don't know if they are still around though. Also...i think "alladin books" is in fullerton.

Hey guys, i just got back today. I didn't get to do a whole lot because we were packing up a bunch of stuff but on the way back this moring I got to stop by best magic. I met Gordon, he's a really cool guy. And another guy;I think his name was jack, or at least his youtube address that he gave me (and i forgot, DOH!) had the name jack in it. I looked around for a while after asking if they had "sylvester pitch 98" which they didn't. The guy who i'll call jack did the old re-light the burnt match on me which didn't fool me but it was nice to see another magician do something live after so long. Then "jack" recommended a trick called "all-outs think-of-a-card" which Gordon promptly performed for me. He then performed the biddle trick for my sister and i asked him if he had multiplying balls, he looked at me funny and said "don't you think that's kind of personal" (J/K). Jack brought out a great set which he demoed for me. I ended up buying the card trick i told you about and the balls for a grand total of 24 buckeroos and we left. I would have stayed much longer if I could but we had 5 hours of driving back up to turlock ahead of us. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who is going to be in the area. It is a laid back environment and these guys obviously love what they do (heck, i would). I was there for maybe half an hour tops and i saw four tricks without even asking. Thanks for all of the info guys, if have any questions or if you know what that guys name and youtube address please post them.

I still remember when I went to my first shop long ago, I did not leave until almost 5 hours! Time really flies when you are sessioning and demostrating back and forth. I miss those days. I hope to have my own shop one day soon, and has been a long work in progress.

The Disneyland magic shop has extremely high prices. They have D'lites for $20, while here, they're less than $10 (last time I checked, I might be wrong). Also, the selection is pretty bad. The one redeeming quality is that they sell Mark Wilson's book.

True their prices are a bit high, but not a TON higher than most of the shops around there. And their selection is actually pretty good. You might have to ask what they got, but they really are a pretty good little shop.
