Ah, whatever. I'm too lazy to figure that out. It isn't even worth it...

Thank you, David.

David's right. This isn't meant to be a trick question.

Just a note: No one has won yet!

EDIT: Using 0.188 as noted below for the weight of a DVD w/case
From Amazon, Orbitz is 1 0z/pack, so 2 packs are 0.125 pound -> Total = 0.313 lb

John: needs 14 more pounds. 14/0.313=44.7. Can't go over so he can bring 44 DVDs, leaving 104 behind.
Sally: needs 29 more pounds. 29/0.313=92.6. Can't go over so she can bring 92 DVDs leaving 228 behind.

So Sally leaves more DVDs behind. (228 v 104)

The weight of the DVD and case is .188 lbs.
Don't know if that helps.

Here's my answer:

PREWORK

John=136 lbs
+144 DVDs

Sally=121 lbs
+320 DVDS

Camel=300 lb capacity

An orbit 12 pack weighs 1.8 lbs. Divide 1.8 by 12 and get .15 lbs for each pack of gum.

A DVD with case weighs .188 lbs.

2 packs of gum each weighing .15 lbs each are really .30 lbs make each unit .488 lbs. (A unit is 1 DVD plus 2 packs of gum)

WORK:

John=144 X .488= 70.27 lbs
70.27 + 136=206.27
TOTAL= 206.27 lbs

Sally=320 X .488= 156.16 lbs
156.16 + 121= 277.16 lbs
TOTAL=277.16 lbs

JOHN
206.27
-150.00
56.27 lbs of DVDs

SALLY
277.16
-150.00
127.16 lbs of DVDs

(Now their total weights would have to remove what was calculated above to get to 150 lbs)

I am semi confident that Sally would have to throw away (or sell on eBay) more DVDs than John.
EDIT: Btw, this is my updated answer. I think Acar said on the other page that we can update. Btw I edited it again haha

Okay, so I am making another entry, because it would bug me if I didn't.
So, each pack of gum weighs .15 lbs each, and a DVD weighs .188 lbs, that would mean, each DVD and 2 Packs of gum would weigh .488 lbs.

So, Sally and John get on the Camel (Interesting vehicle choice)

John has exactly 70.272 lbs of stuff on him (.488x144)

Sally has exactly 156.16 lbs of stuff on her (.488x320)

John's weight is 206.272 lbs, and Sally's total weight is 277.16 lbs.

If each want to be 150 lbs, then John would have to drop 56.272 lbs, equaling about 116 DVDs and gum rounded up. Sally would need to drop 127.16 lbs, equaling 261 DVDs and gum, rounded up.

So...

John Needs to drop 116 DVDs (and gum)
Sally Needs to drop 261 DVDs (and gum)
Therefore, Sally needs to drop more DVDs

Answer: SALLY

Thank you...

John = 136 lbs
+144 DVDs

Sally = 121 lbs
+320 DVDs

gum = .15/pack
DVD = .188

DVD + 2 gum = .488

John: 144 x .488 = 70.272 lbs
70.272 + 136 = 206.272 Lbs

Sally: 320 x .488 = 156.16
156.16 + 121 = 277.16

John: 206.272 - 150 = 56.272
Sally: 277.16 - 150 = 127.16

John: 56.272/.488 = 115.311 DVDs
Sally: 127.16/.488 = 260.57 DVDs

John: approx 116 DVDs (w/ gum) (115.3 to be exact)
Sally: approx 261 DVDs (w/ gum) (260.6 to be exact)

Sally would need to get rid of more DVDs than John

Each Dvd weighs 0.188 lbs.
Each Orbit pack weighs 0.0586429617 lbs (1.9*14 grams) with box weighs around 3 pcs. 1.9g*3 =0.0125663489 lbs so total weigh of a 14 pc pack of Orbit is 0.0586429617 + 0.0125663489 = 0.0712093106 lbs

One unit is Dvd + 2 orbits = 0.188 + 2(0.0712093106) = 0.330418621 lbs

John weighs 136 lbs.

John = 136lbs + 144 * 0.330418621 =183.580281 lbs

Sally = 121 + 320* 0.330418621=226.733959 lbs

John 33.580281 lbs over
Sally 76.733959 lbs over

John has to throw away 33.580281/0.330418621 = 101.629505 dvds or 102 dvds

Sally has to throw away 76.733959/0.330418621 =232.23255 dvds or 233 dvds

Sally has to throw away more dvds than John

Haha too bad you beat me (maybe we can share it lol :lol: haha jk... or am I? lol)... the only thing I'm debating if its 115 DVDs for John or 116

since its 115.3 normally you would round down but you cant have 115.3 DVDs so it may have to be 116

gah this is the first time I've done math in months

Hahaha, me too. It is 116, because he would weigh 150.3 if you don't round up.

I don't think the original post said we have to say how many more DVDs one person has to give away than the other
