So, my interest in magic started at about age 8. That was the time when i bought my first real magic learning resource ( i will not mention the magic kits i owned before, even though they really made me want to learn more magic). We went into a magic shop in Disneyland and i bought the concise version of Mark Wilson's "Complete course in magic". It was pure wonder for me. I could not wait to look up how to vanish a coin, as i have been mystified by a visitor in our home to doing just that. I learned the french drop and have been mystifying people with it ever since.
Learning magic was such an amazing journey for me, the feeling of learning how to work miracles filled me with great excitement! I was intrigued by Mark Wilson's comment on card magic that "the difficult sleights have been omitted from this book". What could these advanced moves possibly be? It gave me a feeling of excitement hard to describe.
Now, i know a lot of these advanced sleights. But at the same time, learning these moves does not fill me with wonder and amazement anymore. I am sure that some of that is connected to my age, some of that is just the fact that i am not new to magic anymore. But I wish that I could keep more of that wonder with me, this feeling that i am learning the secret mechanics of working miracles, seeing the magic we do from an excited spectator's perspective.
What are some of your thoughts on this?
