I'm going to get some new promo material made coming up soon. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas maybe I didn't think of? I'll do all the standard card/coin manipulation/fire/smoke/highlighted routines. Any advice?

You get what you pay for. So don't screw yourself out of high-quality photography just because of your budget. This is an investment, not an expenditure. Your promotional material is the first impression that any potential audience will have of you. If it is sub-par and makes you look like an amateur, you will suffer for that mistake. Nobody wants to pay an amateur. First impressions are everything when you are engaging potential clients. If you want the high-paying engagements, show that you are prepared for them and that you are the person for the job.

Look professional.

Think of the potential clients you wish to cater too.

Don't pose or dress in a way that makes you uncomfortable, it will show in the photos.

If you are trying to portray a specific character, convey that, but realize that is how you'll be recognized, i.e. Children's Magician, Comedy Magician, etc. Don't fall for the cliché's of fanning/springing playing cards (unless you're exclusively a card magician). The same goes for posing with any magical props; you don't want to pigeonhole yourself.

There are SO many bad examples out there, it's easy enough to find them with a Google Image search.

As a personal example, I perform as a mentalist, so my photos portray as much.
