Iv been doing magic / mentalism now for about 1 1/2 years now on my own, im looking to make my next move an go to a school an take my talent to the next level Iv never practiced with anyone besided my god father when I was a kid so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated im willing to travel im from a small town where magic/mentalism just isnt practiced by anyone any advice by an experinced entertainer as to what I should do ?

The only schools you need are book and videos. It is a plus to go to magic clubs and hang out with other magicians but not a necessity. there were none in my local area growing up and still are not any. I plan to start a club sometime in the future if I get time. I have done magic and mentalism for 32 years now and about 25 years as profession, and rarely ever get time to meet with other magicians. A few times a year tops. But books and video are all you need. Forums are also a very good tool to find out tips and information about what products to buy etc.

But those are all you will ever need to become a professional or just to advance your skills as a hobby. If you must attend a school then look into the Magic and Mystery School by Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger. They also offer online classes.

But not necessary at all to obtain sucess with magic, being a hobby or as a career. I became a professional before I even had one magic VHS tape, and did my first gigs with material that I learned from library books. Some I still do today. "The Amateur Magician's Handbook by Henry Hay" and "The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne" is what started it all for me and built my foundation, followed by RRTCM, Mark Wilson's Complete Course, and the Tarbell Course.

For me i've never been to the club in my city. And have been doing magic for 9 years. 2 years professionally. You dont really need a club. Plenty of books will do you good.

Also if you want tutoring and there isnt a club in your area, Aaron Fisher offers one on one skype tutoring as do other magicians as well.

I don't know of any real-life Hogwarts Academies, but I do know that I've learned more about Mentalism from Richard Osterlind's DVDs than from any other source. His "First I'll show you, then I'll teach you" approach works well for me. He also has an interview partner who will probe him for additional details and nuances for each effect.
