Hey everyone just was wondering in ur opinion which oil and water routine is ur favorite, and how come? gimmicked or non-gimmicked. mine would have to be sorted affair, the trick is you take out 4 cards of each black and red and you have the spectator shuffle the deck and set it down than you do the normal oil and water effect with the cards pulled out earlier and each phase looks cleaner than the last phase and looks more and more impossible. For the climax the whole deck is sorted itself from reds and blacks which the spectator shuffled earlier.
I enjoy it alot its my fav. becasue the spectator can shuffle the deck which sorts itself out and when you do the trick you do it more and more fairly each time making it look like real magic!

I never really cared for oil and water routines but joshua jay showed a really nice one in his penguin live lecture where you have 4 aces and 4 jacks which keep separating. There are 3 phases and in the final one its really visual and he calls it oil through water, where the jacks and aces suddenly switch places. Its pretty cool and not too difficult either, I'm going to start performing it once I get it down.

I'm 100% with Vikram on this one.

Joshua Jay's Oil and Water that was on his Penguin Live Lecture and his Talk about Tricks DVD set is ABSOLUTELY incredible. Easily one of the most magical things that I've ever witnessed.

Another good one is on Geoff William's Miracles for Mortals DVDs. The reason I like it is because it looks like many of the much more difficult versions, but William's is completely self-working.

I've done both for years.

Ah, completely forgot one.

http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/1653 is one of the most beautiful additions to the plot... I think. It got a lot of negative feedback for being somewhat obvious to magicians, but to laypeople, it's one of the cleanest things you can do for an Oil and Water routine.
