I love cards and coins and silks and ropes all all other things magical. There are so many other things out there that would lend themselves to doing magic. I think that when we do magic with unique items the magic can be so much stronger.

So what magic items do you think we should use more in our magic?

I love slinkys, I think they are very magical but I've never seen a magic trick performed with a slinky.

Stop signs also seem very interesting and they are big and visual. I would love to see some magic that involves a real life stop sign.

Combs are very funny to me. I think we need more magic with them.

What do you all think? What objects do you wish we could do magic with or that we don't do magic with when we probably should?

Well, not enough people can appreciate the Ellis Ring, although that's a prop made for magic...

I don't think there's enough Pen or Cigarette tricks out there. Very portable objects, most people have on or the other now a days, and if they don't and you do, it's not as suspicious as bringing your own cards/coins.

Zippo lighters would be cool too, of course flourishes exist, but I wanna see a color change.

Hackey Sacks would be interesting! I was with some friends in a circle, kicking our hacks, and I ended up catching it and doing a color change I learned for coins and sponge balls, and then started the circle again. It got some laughs and a jaw drop, but I'd like to see something more impressive.

I just think easily portable things, or everyday apparel would be a good choice. Because when you tell somebody "I'm a magician" the first thought in their mind is card tricks, which is why some of the best tricks (in my opinion) are the ones that spectators don't expect.

I'm always impressed when people use a TOTALLY out of the box prop for a magic trick. Charlie Frye has a trick where he takes a comb (I think?) and it visually vanishes. The method is as cool as the effect in that one!

Love the slinky idea. Maybe I'll have to play with that!

I walk through a Dollar Store and buy 2 of whatever I'd like to turn into a trick. I use one of these to build gaffes, gimmicks and fekes for the un-gaffed regular one. Example; coathangers (for this I might buy a dozen as they're not sold separately). I have all kinds of ways to make them link (or appear to link).

Same with a bottle of Coke-- buy two. After drinking your lovely beverages you can cut the top off of one of them to make a bottle-thru-table trick. Or, if you're really diabolical, shrink one in very hot water, place it inside the other (an incision is made) and you can make what is known as a ghost bottle. I'm leaving something out here as this is a marketed item, but once you know the secret you can easily make your own.

Dollar Stores, Goodwill's, Hobby Shops...I like to play 'What if MacGyver were a magician?' Googwill stores are always an excellent source for wallets. With a copy of Jerry Mentzer's THE CARD TO WALLET BOOK you have all the secrets for making your own gaffed wallets. If a wallet looks used they generally won't sell it, I've found some VERY expensive wallets for a dollar or two.

Dollar Stores are also an excellent source for practice mirrors. Buy three of the 12"x14" mirrors, break off the el-cheapo plastic frames and duct tape them together. You now have a $45 tri-sectional practice mirror. Be careful, girlfriends and wives love to steal these to paint their faces and doo their hair with.

Walking around these places will give you great inspirations.
