I was sitting practising with my cards the other day when it struck me that I could not name a single famous female magician. Why is that? Is it because the magical arts are simply just too masculin or most women interested in magic usually end up as assistants. Has anyone got any answers for me?

i dont know of anybody either but that doesnt mean there arent any. Maybe is just something that doesnt strike women as something theyd like to learn, more something theyd like to watch.

I'm sure there are some, but really most of the men magicians I hadn't even heard of until I started getting into magic. There are probably not that many women magicians, but I bet there are probably a few.

There are a few. There is Balinda or Malinda or whatever her name is. She's the one who gets impaled by the ginormous drill. Really cool effect.

If you look at any activity, sport, etc... You will see most of the famous and the best are men.

I saw one of the most famous ones last night, actually. And well, she confirmed why there are no famous ones. They seem to act as if they couldnt cut it as a dancer, so they use magic to showcase their dancing. It was quite lame, and very boring.

I can't believe you people forgot about Jade...

She's an amazing performer, right up next to David Copperfield and Lance Burton. 8)

Yea one time when I was about 8 this struck me as well. But I was standing, and practicing with my sponge balls at night.

No it's because you have not expanded your knowledge base, nor have you done any thorough research. Although this profession/hobby is male dominated, there are many famous female magicians out there, just not a ton world renowned.

But, fame does not always constitute successful, skillful, or talented, it is merely a plus financially. Names of famous female magicians can be dug up in many other topics such as this, so I don't have to say what you should do....

Yeah, millions of dollars each year has nothing to do with success...

You're right though, talent nor skill comes from fame, it creates fame.

Thanks for you reply, of course fame does not exactly equate with skill, however my idea about why magic seems to be soo male dominated still hasn't quite been satisfied. But then again, no one really cares I guess.
