Ok, so I'm mainly a card magician, but I do some coin and other effects. However I have never worked with IT before. Is the tarantula worth the 50$ and how hard will it be for me to accomplish this?

I rarely "perform" with thread but I am a fond "appreciator" of thread magic. I love the gimmicks and play around with them quite a bit but performance wise it doesn't fit my character. So with that background here is my take on thread magic.

Thread magic is every bit the "sleight of hand" art form that we attribute to cards, coins, and sponges. I personally recommend people learn thread magic just like any of those forms of magic. Ie. start off with the easy stuff and then slowly start to buy expensive gimmicks to go along with it. It is not just a recommendation to save you money if you decide it is not your thing. Even if IT is your thing I think it is best to start off with simpler effects using cheaper reels and or invisible elastic loops. You will learn more and have greater competence in the long run. Reels in general are high maintenance items when you are first starting off. You get tangled, you break thread, ect. The Tarantula comes with 25' of thread. I wouldn't be surprised if a beginner went through all that in a month. In contrast, my original Sorcery micro ITR was my starter reel, I have had it for three years, Broke and tangled thread a bazillion times, and it still has a bit of thread left from the original spool. Just ask yourself, If you were going to get into coin magic would you go out and buy the most expensive coin gaff there is? or would your start off with Bobo's and a few cheap gimmicks?
