This is one of my all time favorite magic effects, but i have YET to see one for sale where it floats out above the audience, i don't have any version, because i want THAT version, anyone know if that version is available, or if no one sells it?

If you know the method, you know what has to be done, involving rigging the entire theater for the one effect.

That doesn't mean he couldn't prep the theater when he got there.

How MUCH prep is it? could it be done in smaller places? can it be removed?

As Dave said, it requires rigging an entire room. It'd take more than your average household room to conceal the apparatus for this kind of effect, and while it may not be large or heavy necessarily, it will take a lot of planning and preparation to make the effect portable and adaptable to different venues.
