Hey my magic friends,

I am travelling around the world at the moment and got a few gigs for Halloween magic here in Vietnam. I just travel with cards and a fe things like IT, TT, etc. so I don't have any props with me!
The shows will be from 30 - 200 people so I can't do Stigmata for 200 people :-)

I want to do a scary halloween show, so far I have:
Wayne Houchin: Thread
Let something levitate
Haunted deck (Loops)
armbuster
Web - Spider on hand
Card out of mouth (maybe with stage blood)
Something out of a pumpkin

It is a big challenge - any more ideas and inspirations for this kind of show (especially tricks that play big).

Thanks so much

Dan

Daniel, be VERY CAREFUL! The last time I was in Viet Nam people were shooting at me. My act wasn't that bad but they just didn't have a sense of humour back then.

Break a leg with your show!!

I don't wish to be rude, but it sounds like you sold a show that you don't have. Many of the effects that you describe are mostly for a strolling/close up situation. The majority of your effects will not play big enough for that size audience.

Since this show is for Halloween, you should try to get the people that hired you allow you to do strolling magic, or give them the opportunity to book a performer who has a show large enough to accommodate them, as there is not enough time for you to put together a show for this type of venue.

Brisco, he is in Viet Nam, they don't have Halloween. He is there and just want to entertain some people with an impromptu show.

Are you sure?

When I perform impromptu performances I dont call them Gigs or really even shows.

I made Paul Harris' Las Vegas Leaper play for an audience of about 100 with some good patter and two volunteers.

I'd agree with Brisco. See what you can do about turning the show into a strolling show. The only advice I could give you with the stuff you got is some mentalism/mental magic....and I am not sure how well that would play with the potential language barrier. In the future I recommend Dixie Doolies Seance and escapology DVDs. He does a lot of DIY effects that, if you are on the road, you can go to the local hardware and craft stores and find the materials you need to build on the spot. It doesn't sound like you will have enough time to get those dvds, learn how to build your props, build them, and learn to perform them in time.

P.S. I also agree with paddy that you should try to avoid getting shot at. But selling a stage show when you are only prepared for a strolling show is a good way to get people to shoot at you....besides being a corpsman for the Marines that is!

My recommended routine with your props.

Paul Rosini's "Flying Cards"-I believe I printed this off from the Learned Pig.

You could do a silent routine (music?) by rolling up a dollar bill (flash bill) into a cone, and vanishing a handkerchief from your jacket pocket into it. Ditch the TT while reaching for a "Magic Wand" Then levitate the dollar bill, perhaps making it vanish in a flash (steal off the TT with the lighter if you have the flash bill, if not, a pull could work) then proceed to reproduce the handkerchief.

OK David, I stand corrected. Sorry Brisco, shouldn't have jumped on you.
