I would have to say hopping halves and scotch and soda. Both of them are extremely easy and mind blowers. Scotch and Soda are more versatile (You can do many different tricks with the same gimmick). They are two tricks that you will never get rid of.

For my money, I'd get Brainwave Deck, Svengali Deck, Dime and Penny, Ultimate Monte. That is a lot of material for under thirty. BUT, the hopping halves is awesome. I don't have it, but have seen it done and it was really cool.

In regards to the sleights, there aren't any serious sleights associated with the Hopping halves. It is pretty easy to do and can be mastered in a relatively short period of time. If you are looking for versatility and bang for your buck, I agree with what somebody said before, get Brainwave and scotch and soda. They will last you a lifetime and always blow people away. If you are looking for the latest and greatest, get Blizzard as it is MIND BLOWING and has no sleight of hand at all. It will destroy your audience, I guarantee you.
