My primary walkaround routine opens with Card Warp.

If you're not into that, try a simple one-coin flurry or a sponge ball routine. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with opening with the venerable Sponge Bunnies...there are many viable routines, not the least of which is Daryl's "Peter Rabbit Hits the Big Time." Oh...and speaking of Daryl, what about "Elbow, Knee, & Neck"?

Get yourself a copy of Jim Pace's Restaurant Worker's Handbook. He has some excellent advice about routine construction and specifically discusses effective openers, closers, and middle material -- he even talks about the prevously-mentioned flash paper bit.

What about Jay sankey's Stirring Silver? A borrowed ring penetrates the bowl of a borrowed spoon. It's a pretty fast trick and works well as an opener. I have it on "Sankey's Greatest Hits".
