So now you are agreeing with fallingblood that a trial night is a bad idea, after you first promoted the idea? You've confused me.
Anyway, I am with paddy. An audition for the manager is the thing to do.
I can't see that a trial night would work (why would the manager want to risk that, if you are a complete stranger to him?) unless you first proved you knew what you were doing with a quick audition, or have some previous references he could check.
