Well I was searching for a table hopping job so I decided to call

local restaurants and ask if they have ever had a walkaround magician

but I didn't want to give away that I was looking for a job so I simply said

I had a reservation for a party that I was planning on booking but I was

wondering if they had a walkaround magician for entertainment ...Most of

them said they don't so I politely said thanks and good bye. I wasn't

being rude about it and I realized my friends were calling the same

places looking to take me out for a christmas present to meet a local

table hopper at a restaurant because I want to get involved. So after I

was talking to them they said, this has been a few calls now asking abou

t one and we are losing business for it and the GM came on the phone

and asked if I know of one that would be willing to have an interview they

might give him a shot. I didn't go and spoil it and tell him I was one but

this kind of thing will be good for summer time when I actually decide to

become a walk around table hopper...I'm not saying this is pestering the

restuarant or bothering them in any way and I'm not condoning it unless

it works for you , but This could be a good way to get a job at a place that

normally doesn't have walkarounds...It seemed to work for me , not

making it right, but just have you and a few friends call once every 2

weeks for a few months or so and ask about booking a party with a

walkaround or asking if they have entertainment during dinner such as a

walkaorund magiciacian....Make sure you mention it on the offbeat...With

a little bit of luck you may just be in the door because with alot of interest

in it they GM will want to look into a possible sales increase like live

entertainment especially if it is wanted....I guess it makes them feel like

they aren't taking a risk which they should feel like anyways if you

propose what you do in a proper manner and have the skill to back it

up...I guess that's all. comments?

Shady way to drum up your own buisness Max. LOL

Its not great buisness tactics and I would not suggest it.
Calling a resturant and asking if they have entertainment is cool but then make sure to tell them that your a magician and would love to come down on a one night engagment to perform for the patrons. Ask to meet or speak with the manager or GM in advance and state that if he's intrested in hiring or would like a demo you can do this one night free of charge walkround show. Then take it from there.

I really don't think your way is the best way to go. I find the easiest way is to set up a meeting, then meet with them. It's straight forward, and it's worked for me over and over again. Space_ghost also makes some good suggestions.

I'm not saying either way what I think of the suggested method.

Just here to ask one question.

Of those of you panning the idea, how many of you are full time restuarant professionals? Just want to get an idea of who's who.

Thanks!

Robert

I currently work one resturant (sunday nights) as my current schedule is very busy.
Tho as always my bookings should slow down after holiday season and I might need to pick up another resturant or 2 :D

Well, as I stated it wasn't my intention to get a job their, I simply wanted to go out to a restaurant to see and speak with a table hopper about the business end of things... Not knowing that my friends were making the same arrangements accidently got the GM interested in this new entertainment... I won't be taking this approach when I actually start looking for serious work but until then It would be a good way to gain experiance...POST 300!

Right now, at a resturaunt once, maybe twice a week, but that's because I'm busy with other shows. But usually, I will work 5-6 nights a week.

That's awesome, one restaurant that I know has a walkaround actually quit a few weeks ago because they needed him for the X-mas break to do alot of hours and there was a death in the famly, They said he may come back in a month and they are sorry that they can't be of help but took my number and said they are looking for a replacement....IT sucks that I had to come home for Christmas break due to University regulations otherwise I could of got a decent job.
