This is kind of a funny magic experience I had just tonight, so I thought I'd share share it.

so I was just at a house party thing tonight, and I was asked to perform some magic for everyone. First I started a card trick which uses a gaffed card. Well the card wasn't facing the right dirrection and so I flashed and the trick was ruined. Then I decided to try a coin trick where I turn a dime into a penny, but lo and behold I accidently turned a dime into a dime. Finally I was able to pull off a packet trick to sort of redeem myself. However, the whole time I was performing, I was cracking jokes about how I was screwing up. Afterward, I had a people tell me how entertained they were by my magic. I thought the show was a dissaster, but as it turns out, it was still entertaining. It just goes to show you that you can entertain people even if you are screwing up.

I base most of my effects on some sort of failure, it helps to build a bigger climax.

as my 40min lesson today with my teach was that people dont just wanna see magic they want to be entertained. You can TOTALY bomb and still entertain them. Just MAKE THEM LAUGH.

i always use tricks that have two bits of magic in them, like in revolver, i was doing this for about fifteen people, and they spotted the first part of the trick, and they all laughed.

the two hecklers of the group said "we caught you, it's not real magic" so i said to them "Well then i better do soemthing special" and did the colour changing deck part of the trick.

they were humiliated, the audience thought them seeing part of the trick was actually part of the trick, i am now a wizard of some sort and everyones happy

no mate, you have the wrong idea. Entertain YES. Humiliate NO.
