That depends on several things. First, what does your contract with the restaurant say? Are you getting a fee plus tips or just a fee.

Second, are you asking for tips from the customers? If you are please quit right now and never do another magic trick. This is the lowest thing you can do and by asking for money you are a begger standing insiderather than on a street corner. Whe I do something at a table I sign (ASL) and say "Thank you very much for your time" and get my a44 to another table. Quite often I have people come up while I am at a table and give me a tip, but I will NEVER ask for one.

Lastly, and not "leastly" does your performance deserve it? are you doing tricks? Are you playing with yourself (gimmicks?) Or are you performing magic? Only one of those deserves a tip.

Personally, I do accept tips, but not all of them. It depends on the people. If the person looks as if they are well to do, and have the money, and if they give me a larger tip, I will take it. I figure they can afford it, and they are tipping me because they actually do like what I did. If the person gives a smaller tip, and seem to only be giving me a tip because that's what they think they should do, I just tell that they don't have to because the company is paying me to do so. But if they insist that I take the tip, I do so. So it really depends on the case for me.

I don't agree with this assumption....I believe gimmicks and sleight alike can make up great routines, I'm not about to leave out the Invisible deck, B2 bomber, or flipper coin out of my act anytime soon, gimmicks can give you some of the best reactions possible and that's something I will not give up easily.

I'm assuming that your assumption assumes too much. I can't find where he said that gimicks have no place in a magicians repertoire.

Invisible deck. flipper coin and B2 bomber get your best reactions? try doing some REAL magic. Go out with a piece of rope and a REAL deck of cards (not gaffed) and if you are even a mediocre magician you should have at least an hour long show without ever repeating an effect. Then you will see reactions from your audience.

I stand by my statement, gimmicks do NOT a magician make. Use of gimmicks is a kids method to pretend they are grown up.
