This summer I was considering a part time job at a local restaurant such as Chilis or TGI Fridays. I have been doing magic for around a year and am looking to start to make some money off of it. I would only work around two to three days a week probably but I was looking for sources to learn how to present my material such as when a good time to approach a tableis. I also need tricks and a solid routine assembled so I was looking for a dvd teaching tricks so i can compile them. Thanks.

Get Live at the Jailhouse. Then research Kirk Charles, and find his guide to resturaunt magic. Then research the Magic Menu. Eugene Burger also has some work done on the subject. Also, read what Paddy and others have to say on this board.

this is what all these beginners think of magic:

Yeah, but at least Blong knows he's not actually ready yet. And he's not asking for tricks after he already has a gig. Most have a couple of days until the gig and are asking for tricks and what to do. He isn't even sure if he's gonna work at one of the restaraunts either. He said he was considering.

I think these kids should get some walkaround gigs first before a restaurant. If they cant get enough of those its simply because they are not ready and not good enough.

Restaurants require you to be on at all times. Keep that in mind. You've already gotten some great advice on the books and DVD to find.

I'm sorry to say but, one year isn't long enough to do restaurant magic unless you really try hard and pratice every single momment you get. But other than that you are not ready to become a restaurant magician.

ugh yeah I was asking some help and what tricks to do not whats hes asking and if you read the quote all it says is about "how many years he has been doing magic" and i've done magic about 4-5 years... all im saying is he needs to wait till he gets some expeance in magic so hes better.

Alright then I will not do it but I will study up. Benlewis you are right but I did not appreciate your comment. Im not saying I know all about magic I just undera\estimated how hard and how much work it would be. Again, sorry.

What's the problem here? Everyone likes to earn money; why not do it with magic?

What is disheartening is that so many people on this forum are too quick to do one of two things. First, younger magicians need to be willing to perfect their craft before delving into the world of performing for money. Second, older magicians (older meaning more experienced) need to be willing to guide those who are inexperienced rather than rain criticism and slurs against them. Sad state of affairs I would say.

Because the majority of people don't deserve to make money off the little knowledge that they have. Magic is for entertainment. Just because you can do magic, does not mean you should be paid.

That's a bit cynical. Acting is for entertainment, playing music is for entertainment, dancing is for entertainment, being funny, of course, is for entertainment. They're all things that people are willing to pay to see. Why not take advantage of that?

If you're a beginner then you definately shoiuldn't be doing magic for money, you should have more experience. I enjoy doing magic for free. Now when I get a bit older and more skilled at magic, then I will start charging for some of my shows, very small price, but for now, just for free.
