Hi,

I use the "Harry Potter" books and movies for my act. I tell everyone that I'm a student at Hogwarts (that's the name of the magical school) Anyway, when a trick goes wrong I just pretend that there's "muggles" around (muggles are people who don't know about witches and wizards) and I look around then move on to another trick. This really makes the crowd feel like they are a part of the magic world since I never call my audience "muggles" and they never notice my mistakes when I start looking around for the un-magical people.
When they start to ask me if I'd teach them the tricks, I tell them I'm a STUDENT at Hogwarts, not a TEACHER and that gets them to stop bothering me. And when I want/need my show to end I tell them that I'm really not supposed to do magic outside the school and if anyone finds out that I have been doing magic I'll get expelled. It's a quick simple ending and it works every time! No questions asked.

LOL...that's pretty creative. Though I don't do that...when I perform at my restaurant I'm always asked if I work at Hogwarts. I think its funny.

Thats kool. I think I might try it! I'm a big fan of Harry Potter.

The new book? So did I. It's wicked. And I used the Harry Potter theme like I said I would. Went pretty well.

I was using the M5 on this little girl the other day, making a penny she gave me move around on the table on its own, and she accused me of having powers. Then she asked me if I knew Harry Potter. LoL.

i once bought a vidio called magic school or something like that. I bought it because it had a kwl broom levertation! When im bored i muck about taking the mick out of harry potter (not 2 a audiance)!

well if some guy came to me dressed up as harry potter trying to do magic tricks id call the cops yet i mean 5 or 6 year olds who have seen the movies...

Oy. Call me a spoilsport (or, for that matter, whatever else you want), but this just does not sit well with me. On the one hand, it gets peoples attention, but on the other, you're restricting your own creativity, and if you do go pro, you'd likely have to change it anyway (due to copyright law). So I don't see any real harm in it, but you do have the potential for greater origionality.

As a magican I hate defending what I do verses witchcraft. I do "Tricks" not witchcraft! If you use a sorce like HP you are saying I do witchcraft. YOU DO TRICKS HELP stop people from saying any thing that has to do with withcraft and bring them back to earth and see it is a TRICK!!!!

PS If I where YOU (and I am not) I would stop useing that as a act and be your self hay it works for me and I book 2 to 4 shows a week

then i do water to wine. (koolaid) i drink it myself as i tell them that being the one-third of the holy divinity is stressful and i need the wine to relax.

then i do balducci levitation and explain that is how moses was able to walk across the water.

after that, i take donations and admit new members to my cult.

so yes, i agree, don't do a harry potter theme. it limits your income. and it's hard to convince people to shave their heads if you only claim to be a witch.
