What is the custom for tipping restaurant magicians? Is it regional, or based on venue, time, etc.? I would hate to be at the wrong end of the table of an unhappy magician.

I don't think it's regional or venue related. People tip all over the US for a number of things. I don't know what other countries tipping customs are though. And I don't see what time would have to with it!

I think it's just like anything else...if you're happy with the service (the performance in this case), you tip accordingly, amount being at your descression.

Just ask if they accept tips. I don't, some other magicians do.

It all depends on how much your being paid by the restaurant. If im being paid by the hour I dont take tips, but if im getting a low base pay for a few hours then I set my tip jar out. It all depends on you and how much you feel your worth.

Hey Syntax, just a question. I've heard you mention your tip jar several times, and I was just wondering where exactly you put it? Do you ever have to deal with theft at all? How do you let people know the jar is there without making it seem like they have to tip you?

I use one of the $29.00 fold out camping tables from walmart to set up at the front of the restaurant. I cover it with a funky table cloth and set out the magic I use at one end and magic I sell at the other end. My tip jar is on the end with the magic I sell so everyone can see it.... Now your prob wondering what I mean buy magic I sell, I have this deal with ssadams wholesale co. and I sell small effects at low prices for all the kids. It has been a very nice pay off.
As far as people trying to steal , I have caught a few but I seam to be slicker then them. Anytime someone goes near my table I make it to it in time. Plus I do alot of my magic by my table around all the people that are waiting to eat. When there is noone by my table then I do table hoping.
