If you are not a good enough performer to get PAID by the restaurant, you are not gopod enough to perform at the restaurant.

Even if they pay you a lousy $50 a night (that's $25 an hour) plus tips. If you work for free you denigrate the performing industry. Why? 'Cuz when a real performer who makes his (her) living comes to the restaurant the manager says "I have some kid who works for free, that's good enough for my customers."

That is true but I think that working for tips may be a way for the manager to give you a chance before he starts paying you.

Yes, doing ONE, count 'em ONE show for free as an audition is fine. Any more and you're being used.
