This is a great trick, but hard to explain so bear with me. Look at your left hand, palm up. See the three lines that run at different angles but all end up near your index finger? All you need to take note of is the top one, that runs from just below the pinky to between index and middle fingers. Got it? The only part of the line you need worry about is the area under the pinky, you'll see why later. Now take a match and light it, letting it burn about half way before blowing it out. Let the crowd see this, as fire always draws attention! Once the match is cool break off some of the crispy ash at the top, but leave some on the unburned match stick. Take the remaining match and ash and draw a line about 1 inch long diagonally thru the crease in your palm. Make sure this line is well defined. Once done blow off any ash crumbs, and do not touch the new line on your palm or it'll smudge. Show all that only one line has been drawn. Make a tight fist and have a spectator hold your hand shut so they no there will be no funny business. Turn over your hand so the back of it is now visible. With what ash is left, make another line at roughly the same point as the first, just on the back of your hand, but going the other way. Imagine it would make an X with the line on your palm. You may need to burn another match for the extra ash. Now take your free thumb and slowly rub off the ash on the back of your hand, stating you are really pushing it thru your hand, into your palm! Have the person release your secured fist and open it to reveal the nice X where before there was only a single line!! Try not to laugh at the faces people make when they see this. Spice up the trick by throwing in tales of voodoo magic or evil hexes. Or even better...do this to someone else's hand and watch them nearly faint. But rub off the X before they realize how it got there. Have fun!!
