I'm thinking about maybe doing this soon, but I dont know how I could approach people. Do you just walk up and introduce yourself?

Thanks.

I've just started performing a couple walk-around routine at some parties...and I just say whatever comes to me....its kinda hard to explain

Here's an example:

I walked up these 2 people who were just talking casually..
"Could you keep it down a bit...I'm trying to do a trick"

and I move immediately into the trick

got some laughs....but normally I just walk up and introduce myself...The spectator never really pays attention to how you walk up...more of how you perform your effects

u can go and do the "french drop" and take a sponge ball out of someone ear. someone on the table would notice you and then u could start with ur magic. or u can come and drop from above the table one of ur silk and then grab it, vanish it, and start with ur routine. those r just a few ideas... i think best way to go to people is with a small trick, but thats just me.

just go up to a table and ask
"who wants to see my balls?"

and then pull out some sponge balls and start the routine. you could even ask if anyone there would like to hold your balls.

another good way is to make them approach u buy doing UFO card in the middle of a crowded area, this way, only ppl who are interested will come and watch, then once some ppl ask if ur a magician or something, do more tricks...

It easier for me. I tend bar, so they all, eventually, approach me for one reason or another  . Then I scope them out, and if they look like they're up for it, I lay a trick or two on them. And then it begins. Some nights I'm so busy doing tricks that a few people have gone thirsty. Other nights you can hear crickets chirping, and no one wants to see anything cool with any coins or any cards.

I guess my point is that you can put yourself in positions where people sort of come to you. Behind a bar isn't the only place where that happens. I used to hang out in a coffee shop and practice all the time. Eventually, someone will come up to you and ask to see whatever you just did again. So you promptly do not show them again, move into something twice as cool, and bingo, you're a street magician.

I don't ask them wether or not they want to see a trick, then most of them think and say "no, if I want that I'll go to my nephew, he got a magic kit for christmas." so I use an aproach like sankey's

"Hi, my name is [your name here], and I am a magician. I have been asked to go around and show everyone a quick trick. So if you would please reach into the deck and touch a card that you are drawn to"
