Watch out for the obnoxious drunk that always want to grab at the cards/trick to prove you wrong.

a great trick to do in a pub is jiggernaut by mark jenest (miracles while-u-wait) its a type of cups and ball routine that fits in with the pub theme as it uses olives, corks and jigger (used for measuring drinks) also the patter is along the lines of testing if the spectators have been drinking to much sometimes i have been lucky and the managment has let me perform this from behind the bar wich looks even better, it also gets u seen so when you walk round the tables performing people will say oh there's that magician from behind the bar may make it easier to approach tables. good luck... hopefully if people have had to much to drink you can show them anything and they will be shocked anyway. :P

I do a lot of rope magic now. A friend introduced me to this a while ago and I find that all I carry now is 3 lengths of rope and I have a good hour show for bars, restaurants, parties, or street shows.

Mark Wilson's Course in Magic and Daryl's Rope Magic DVDs are invaluable.
