I think this guy is a marketing genius. We have to remember that a key element of show business is "business". This guy saw a captive audience that may like magic, and he has built a business out of it. As a result, he is a working performer who sells pre-existing commercial effects at a proft. I don't see anything wrong with that.
In fact, this is no different than going down to your local magic shop and having the owner demo an effect. If you like it, you may want to buy it. But if you're not a magician, you will still be entertained. Now, I doubt if anyone would dare say that the guy behind the counter at their local magic shop is not a real magician.
It's also a much better method than viewing video demos over the internet. Too many people are able to repeatedly view these videos for the sole purpose of trying to figure out how the trick was done - And in many cases, these people (who don't respect the effort of the inventor) have the audacity to call themselves magicians.
This guy is not giving away secrets and he is not creating a situation of undue exposure. You pay for the trick, you get the rights to the secret. That's how the magic world works.
