I have been skimming through this forum and finding it hard to find anything specifically related to restaurant work.

Would I be wrong in thinking this forum is to help people start 'working' in restaurants (when I say 'working', I mean card working or coin working, for example)?

If this is what this forum is for, can you please help me. I will soon be a student at university and would like to get a job doing table work at restaurants:

1) Is there any advice you can give me?
2) Is there any free information you can give, such as previous newsletters or websites?
3) What books/videos/DVDs are advisable to purchase to begin being a cardworker in restaurants or similar places (such as cafes)?
4) How do I actually go about asking the manager for a job?

There is plenty advice on this board on where to start. Most of it says to buy a book on the subject. I recommend Kirk Charles' book as well as Jim Pace's book. Also check out the restaurant forum over at the cafe. As far as material, many people like Jim Sisti's Magic Menu.
