To clarify that little refrence to Bill Malone's tape:
He was talking about stoling/close-up magic for like private parties and how usually the person who hired you and is running everything is too busy to get a chance to check you out; so by creating a crowd he doesn't have to see you to know that you're doing a good job. (the short)
I think that was in a different discussion. I think the one M_B was referring to was when he was telling the story of how he bet his friend that he could get a restaurant job at any restaurant that the friend chose. I'm also pretty sure that he was talking about only taking this approach at the bar, and I'm confident that this could only work on a very slow night.
