when performing for people sitting and eat at the table do you want to stand, sit, kneel, or what? It seems to me that they can see stuff from the bottom which is bad... and sitting with them might scare them, so what does one do?

Depends on your performance style, type of restaurant, type of audience, type of management, and a load of other things...

I personally stand, and this seems to be the way the majority of restaurant workers perform. You really need to be discrimminatory in selecting effects to perform as 1) most of the time you are surrounded by other tables that may be looking on 2) You usually will not have much if any table room to use, so most effects should be done in the hands 3) effects should ideally be modular, so you can wrap them up quickly, still have effects happening but don't need to finish to the end if the food arrives

I really refuse to be dogmatic in giving advice in this forum because what works for me in Manhattan may not work for someone somewhere in Kentucky... so really all I can give you is the way I perform in my restaurant work. Merely holding the cards down at my waste and tilting the front edge down covers my angles from below, so standing works for me...

I prefer to stand, but if you need to lap stuff then you have to sit!

I find that it depends on the audience. Personally i prefer standing as it gives me a lot more room.

I understand this question to be what position are you in when performing for people WHILE THEY ARE EATING and the answer is NONE. When the food arrives the magi leaves. Sayonara, byebye, so long. They came to enjoy a meal not have us there hovering over their food.

Before the meal arrives I perform standing.
