Well its not picking an audience members pocket, but there is a theme that can be performed as a routine. I dont know why you would bother with real pickpocket gimmicks.

99% of pickpocketing is misdirection, its not hard to slip their wallet out of their pocket if they are concentrating on something else, no gimmiks needed. work on your misdirection thats you best "gimmik"

fake hands, fake arms, with your your real arm under your coat.
clothes with holes cut out to reach a hand through.
newspapers could be considered a gimmick/prop,
to provide cover and reach under.
backpacks/handbags with holes to reach a hand out through.
Not applicable to magic, but the criminals can use a very sharp blade to basically open the pocket up, spilling out the contents.
Sticky substance on fingers to provide a surer grip.

Not if you are bold. Just get into their space and seem genuine. (it also helps if you do a couple of magic tricks first, so that they understand what you are all about). If you get caught laugh at yourself and then misdirect their attention and steal the object anyway. Often times right after you get caught is the easiest time to steal an object anyway (because you have an excuse to be touching it, under the pretense that you are putting it back).

Just have fun with it. And smile so that they realize you are just having fun.
