What tricks do you guys find best for getting close enough to spectators with out them getting suspicious your gonna nick their watch or their wallet?

I know how, I just can't find a trick that suits it. Also I only know from Stealing the Show, on the street what do you guys do about pickpocketing. are the techniques the same. I know there are some topics related to this already but they are all very vague. One last final point, how did you guys psych yoursleves up for the first steal you ever made. I'm sure the first is the worst and once you've crossed the p-o-n-r and get the wallet then your elated and have the confidence to do it more, but I haven't crossed the point of no return yet and am friggin scared .

P.S. I am preferable looking for mentalism stuff that can be done close-up and personal. Also, I don't want to know how the tricks are done, just which one's work well!
