so im showing someone a trick. then some kid comes up and says, "omg dude that is so oblious." and then starts saying something really stupid to everyone when he thinks thats how i do the trick when it isnt!!!! if this happens to u reply

just so u know, these things happen alot. if its obviuosly not how u did, u can ask them to examine ur cards,coin, or whatever.

A fellow magician at school was explaining to me how to do a card routine, but neither of us had any cards on us at the time, so he mimed it to me whilst explaining (miming made the trick easier to follow than if he'd tried to explain it using just words). The trick involves the magician putting the deck behind his back. As he had the imaginary deck cupped in his hands behind his back, someone else who was walking by at the time, said, "I can see what you're doing!" I mentioned that the guy wasn't actually doing a trick, and questioned his reason for trying to reveal a trick that wasn't even happening. He just walked off. I hate jerks like that - people who like the idea of exposing tricks to the public for the sake of making the magician look bad.

You have to accept these kinds of people. Because they are never going away. A rule of thumb is to never confirm nor deny. Ok, what if someone does guess the method. Who cares? If they "guessed" the method, that means they don't know. I've said this before in other threads...when someone makes a statement about how I did something, I'll sometimes say something like, "Wow! That's a pretty good theory. I might have to try that sometime". There are many ways around the situation. The main thing is to keep your composure. Say whatever you want, but don't confirm and don't deny. Also, don't argue with these hecklers. Because if you do, then they are getting to you. And they will know it, which will confirm, in their mind, that they have guessed correctly (even if they haven't).

Many times, even when I've messed up, a spectator will actually tell me how I did the effect but nine times out of ten they don't really know. Littlte kids are fantastic teachers.

if someone tells me how I did a trick and they are completely wrong I am just blunt with them. I tell them "no, that's not even close to how I do that." if I am feeling nice and if they said it in a non-mean way, i.e. not interrupting my trick, then I will add on "good guss though."

usually the people who do that are people who wouldn't if the person was a hired magician. They're just @$$holes. People who are different ages than you won't do that. Children might, but they are usually wrong. if it is a young child, just say they figured it out, and if they attempt it they will fail and feel stupid.
