-Show me a trick!

-Dogs do tricks, I do [effects/illusions]

-Ok, fine then. Do an [effect/illusion]

-How much are you willing to pay?

-I don't want to pay!!

*Pose to snap fingers*

-Don't make me set you on fire now!

Sorry dbaker_creator I stole your line  .

Also I agree with exodus. If someone asks me to do a trick and I don't want to, I'll probably just say something like "Nahh, later," or "I don't feel like it."

I always get people asking me to pull a rabbit out of their hat. And it's only on rare occasions that I have a rabbit to pull out of a hat so I do this which I kinda got from the amazing johnathan....

"Well, no, but I can pull a bird out of it.... "

I then take a much time as I can to look like I'm concentrating on the hat.... wave my hands and chant... then reach into the hat and come out with the finger or "The Bird"

I don't want to insult the audience by flipping them off... so I pretend like it was an accident... "Oh my how did that get in there!" and shake my hand furiously

it usually gets a laugh and gets me off the hook

I always give them an angry look and say, "Look, I'm not your performing Monkey you know! I'm not just here for your amusement. I'm an artist, you can't just click my fingers and expect me to perform for you" (I exaggerate my gestures to show them that I'm just playing angry)

I then give them a smile and let out a little chuckle to show them that I'm joking. I usually get a laugh from them, but it also gets the message across.

No.

Why not?

Because I don't feel like it.

Come on.

(Pose to snap fingers) Don't make me set you on fire man!

lol!

I usually show tricks more then once(yeah yeah, breaking the rules and what-not but it's only for tricks they have no chance in heck of figuring out) and when they ask for a specific trick(they usually do) I say I left it at home.

Hey... Show me a trick!

Ok...Here's one... (hit the audience member on the head)...(they are shocked)... Look! I made you shut up!

(Walk Away)

I did that today... of course it only works on mostly one on one (maybe 2 or three... and in friendly circumstances.

"the solar power from the sun isn't shining in the right place and the clock isn't displaying the same digits plus the wind isn't blowing due northeast so the chances of me regaining my magical powers are slim to none... read any good books lately?"

works every time

Because everyone who I've performed to was with cards, they sometimes ask me to do a card trick and I've just said,

"I don't have my cards right now."

And the few times that I've said that, it worked. But I'm going to try and use some of the suggestions you guys gave. Thanks.
