show me a trick?
-nah im not in the mood
-i forget how
-sorry i left my wand at hogwarts
-sure but first i will need a condom and a volenteer
(you need to be able to judge the group to tell wether or not this will be funny to them. If they just stare at you after you said it then you no you said it to the wrong type of peopl=P)

Normally when I dont feel like doing magic I will just force myself to some quick eye candy that will have them puzzled. For instance I will do gregory wilsons "recapped revisited" or I will do a quick coin trick.

The one I very frequently use is...

"Sorry, I'm out of mana."

Or just suck it up and do a coin trick for the poor guy. :-P

Do the sad trick of pretending to take your thumb from your hand, sure they won't be impressed at all but they also will understand you aren't really in the mood...

LOL! thats a cool idea, too bad i can't even do that  . I can do the one where you stretch your thumb to like 10 inches long though :)

I usually just tell them "maybe later" (not necessarily though :D )

Some kids are pretty dumb these days. This kid last week asked me to do a card trick in the middle of math in the front row  .

What's the big deal? If they want to see a trick, I just do a " select a card" control it. The I turn the pack face up say.." tada...!!!" when they say " but that's not my card." I ask what it was, and do an Erdnase color change.

I can do Card controls and Erdnase in my sleep... takes me 2 to 3 minutes, and establishes good will. This guy may remember you when he has his birthday party. Why turn down the chance for free publicity?

Sorry, I just think that if you trully love something you don't turn down an opportunity to perform. Just because.." you don't feel like it." or " you are not in the mood." No one is saying do a 30 minute routine....But what's wrong with 1 trick that takes 3 minutes to do, and that you can do in your sleep? What I am sensing isn't a matter of control...but arrogance. They aren't worth you're 3 minutes.

Remember, you don't want to be walked all over and be a Monkey to your spectator. Musicians don't always want to play, Acrobats don't always want to flip, and Magicains don't always want to "show a trick."
