I once did an open mike spot at a comedy club. This was the second time I`d performed for a larg(ish) audience.
I lost her card a panicked. I had no idea what to do.
I just threw all the cards in the air, said "f*** it" and walked off stage.
Well it got a laugh anyway...
For instances like that, it's always nice to have a trusty invisable deck

The key is definitely humor. It releases tension, thereby relaxing both you and your audience. And by making them laugh you are still providing entertaintment... which is what it's all about!
But, seriously Traylen is right! It's always a good idea... to think of a few outs that you can do... in case something goes wrong with your trick. Just be creative!
