Most of the time I spring the cards on them. I know it sounds mean, but you have to see it in performance. Even the person getting the cards sprayed laughs. It's very lighthearted, even if it doesn't sound like it.
Be cautous in using stuff like this though. Some people, if not presented correctly, take great offense to that.
One time I had a guy say that who had been heckling me thoughout the whole show, and I said, "Really? Do you have a deck of cards I could try that with?"
and he pulled one out. I took the deck, started the trick like he said, and said I would find it. I threw the deck in the air, and then the bell rang.
I don't advise doing this. Ever. No matter the heckler. But I couldn't resist.
