If it goes real bad, to the point of no recovery (which is reallllllllyyyyyyy bad), you can always act like something strange happened, and pull out an Invisible Deck to recover (show the card ended up in another deck upside down). Works wonders.

Tell them apparently they are having trouble understanding how fast the card comes to the top, offer to show it doen in extreme slow motion.........................openly run through the cards and very obviously select their card and bring it to the top with much pomp and flourish. Smile and wink and say, but that's not magic, this is... and continue to do the routine, maybe say "It actually happens this fast..." do a face up riffle pass... watch them pee their pants

a safety net I always carry with me when doing the Ambitious Card Routine. I have the duplicate card in my pocket. If by some mistake the card doesn't come the top, I show my hands empty, very slowly go into my pocket and pull out the card, and say "Guess this time it was extra ambitious." Then I close with that.

93,
The Invisible Deck idea is genius I had never thought of it before... I almost alwasy have an Invis. deck with me as a back up anyhow....
Also the duplicate card thing is good except I let the spec. really choose the card...

ANyhow the AMbitiuos Card routine is like Jazz Magic which is one of the reasons I think every card magician should learn it.

Peace,
K.

forgive me, but I am new to magic. Just got a stripper and invisible deck. What is the ambition trick? Can you do it with a normal deck?

the Ambitious Card Routine is a routine where the magician keeps putting the card into the middle of the deck and it keep jumping to the top. its very hard hitting a must know, and yes it is done with a normal deck of cards.
