I was doing the Coin Bite illusion but then a heckler told EXACTLY how the effect was done to the spectators. I responed by saying a totally different method I used such as the coin was shaved beforehand. What should I do the next time this happens to me?

there are many things you could have done.

example 1: just keep going with other effects. just look at him quickly, roll your eyes and smile and just continue. maybe even make the "ok" symbol with your fingers. this shows the audience that he is not to be taken seriously

example 2: have another coin ready. this effect has been overexposed to the general public. many people now know how it is done. have a coin prepared that is like the biting coin, only just cut, not able to fold. I personally have always done this. after taking the bite out, i show the piece sticking out from my lips. even give it to a spect to hold. (usually they decline if you hold it at the very ends like there is a lot of spit on it). then fake transfer to your lips, and spit it back onto the coin.

example 3: do the trick, then take out a coin and do the coin snap. this is the trick where you shoot a coin out of your hand like a bullet by snapping your fingers. but aim at his eye. if you are fast enough, they won't see the coin fly from your hand to his eye. all the will notice is that he heckled you, you snapped your fingers, and now he is screaming in agony. this is a reputation builder.

Maybe in Germany it is a "reputation builder." In the U.S. and Canada is is the reason we have to have $2 Million in Liability insurance. (Yes if you work in a restaurant or any place you are required to have an entertainers liability policy. Available thru I.B.M.)

To purposly hurt a spectator is an incredibly stupid thing to do PLUS it harms those of us who are ethical magicians and besmirches our reputations that you even write such a thing.

Magic4mps What you have to do is keep practicing so you don't get caught, but if you do always have another coin palmed. then just toss him the ungimmicked coin and ask him to do the effect. I borrow a quarter from a person, have them initial it, and then palm theirs and switch coins. Bite it out, spit it back, use a hanky to "wipe it off" and hand their coin back to them. Never had anyone say what the secret was, cuz I am useing "their" coin and it "can't be rigged." We all know that don't we.

You posted something that I personally consider innapropriate and cruel, and all in all 'questionable.' Obviously one of the mods felt the same, otherwise they wouldn't have edited it. It's a little thing, but it really makes the boards a better place when everyone follows these rules.

I do have to say that it seems that way too people around here don't understand what the words "sarcasm", "joke", or "kidding" mean...

Do we have to be 100% serious, or is this not a place that we can let our capes and wands down and have a laugh as well... I felt the joke was not only appropriate, but seemed as the perfect "Punch Line ending" as with any bit of comedy... everything is serious, and then something way out in left field... Supurb writing... I give it 5 *'s...

On the other hand... I wouldn't mind seeing a heckler burst into flames now and then, would ordinary flash paper with a palmed mini squirt gun filled with ZIPPO lighter fluid get the job done???
