I just fan the cards without the holes, lower my voice a little and smile like I'm sharing a secret and say "Yes, but now I can replace the cards for free on my next two decks with this trick."

If they thought about it further they'd reason how hard it would be to replace the exact same cards....but they never think about it further.

well, whenever I get done with the trick, there is a whole in the middle of the deck, and I am always asked "So, you ruin a deck of cards every time you perform this trick?"

If you look at their question closely, they are in effect making a statement that you are using a trick deck if you say no. If you say yes, you can make the comment that others have mentioned about hinting for a tip.

But remember, you are a magician... why not restore the deck back into new condition?

Say unfortunatley you do ruin a deck of cards each time you perform this....

Then say, fotunatley, the people at the dollar store give you a free deck of cards every time you perform this....
