When I have dropped the cards, and after using one of the lines, I politely as a spectator if they could pick the cards up for me. As they are doing that, I tell the audience a very corny joke that is sure to get a groan. As the audience gives the inevitable groan at the end of the joke I say, "Folks, you better be nice to me. I know lots of these jokes and I could drop the cards again."
i never ask a spec to pick up the cards, they're so rough with them. as a card magician, i have grow to respect my cards and try to have them last a long as possible, and having a spec pick up the cards isnt a way to do that. sometimes they're just so grabby...
i did the LDS once, and a spec tried to catch it, knocking my hand out of the way. neither of us caught it and it fluttered to the floor. instantly, he stooped to the ground and seized the card and for some reason held it to the light and bent it, giving it a nasty crease down the middle lengthwise. the card was the ace of spades from a brand new deck i has JUST opened. that made me so mad as it had also belonged to my brand new ghost deck i recieved the day before, and further more, i ordered only one...
and right before that incident occured, the same spectator kept hitting my hands and the cards for some unknown reason everytime his card returned to the top in my ACR..."o my gosh!! how did you do that?? *slap*" ...and i was just sitting there, thinking to myself, what the edited are you doing..???
so, moral of the story is, try to keep control over every single card if they fall before an obnoxious lout of a spectator can grab them. or just pick a nice crowd to preform for...i need to work on my spectator selections...
