Ok, I’m not asking if I SHOULD get the book Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic, because I know its a must, I want to know if there are any really good silk tricks in it ( that would work good for kids shows) that don’t use thumb tips because of that movie. If it douse Im planing on buying like 5 12" silks.

braady,

Let me tell you something. Misuse and poor handling of the Thumbtip have caused FAR more exposure than any movie ever has.

Does this mean that the TT is now unusable ? HECK NO !

Once you learn the proper way to utilize the TT, you can perform miracles !

Please don't let a stupid movie keep you from learning how to use one of the greatest magician's tools of all time. Get some material on TT use and practice until it becomes second nature to you. If you learn how to properly use one , and you exercise discretion, you'll never have to worry about getting caught.

Movie movie movie. You kids complain about so much, its just another way to cop out of doing something.

I have been performing with a TT for longer than I remember, still do to this day, and wont stop till my thumb falls off.

I have not been effected by that movie one bit or any other movie that "exposes" magic. Get over it and grow up.

Heck there are still people that perform the classics, even after the masked magician.

With proper technique and presentation there should be no problem.

Sorry but I don't agree that the Mark Wilson book is a must to learn a lot about performing kid shows. As a matter of fact I wouldn't recommend that book in my top five.

I agree with my man Sluggo on this one. David Ginn has several good books available and videos also. Check ebay for discount $$. Mark Wilson is a great showman and his book is good in its own way, just not for the kid performer.

The Mark Wilson book is a very good general book on magic. That's why it is recommended so much. However, it does not specifically focus on any particular performing venues (ie. kids shows, restaurant magic, street magic, etc.). That's not to say there isn't any kids material in there. It's just that you have to know what to look for.

If you're just getting into kids shows, focus on books by Silly Billy, David Ginn, and Samuel Patrick Smith. These are some of the leading performers in the industry and they will give you the foundation you need to get started on the right foot.

Once you have that foundation, go back to the Mark Wilson book and see what jumps out at you.

Whether or not you use it for kid shows, you should buy the book. I guarantee you'll learn many many tricks from it. Many are in fact great for kid shows. The silk section wasn't very good though.

On the topic of the TT...

Buy Darwin's DVD and you'll be set for life. If you think you're screwed because a silk vanish was exposed, then you should see have far down the rabbit hole really goes, Neo.
