Hat lines are ESSENTIAL to busking. I set a goal of the amount of money I make before I quit, varying from $100 to $400 depending on the day. Obviously Mondays are the low amount and Fri, SAT., the highest. Then I work until the goal is fulfilled. If I make it early I keep going for another couple of hours to make more.

$20 to $40 just isn't worth it when you can make that much in a 15 minute sidewalk show.

Oh yeah. It happens quite often at first. One other thing, here in NM, they don't like buskers just yet. People are working on it, but not yet. You will probably get hassled.

To answer you, just be ready to chase someone down.

What is the average age of an Albuquerqion when they can actually spell Albuquerque :?: Tough one :D

i set up a table and i just do magic, they can leave a tip or not, i dont walk around and stop people, i set up a table and stop people.

if i wanted i could use a hatline, but i dont (now that i think about it, im not sure why i havent been) but over the summer ill probably start using hatlines more.

and it isnt a show, its like non stop entertainment. people can come and go as they please, leave a tip or not.

ill start using a hatline then and see how much money i make.

AND BTW...

anyone have any hatlines i can use??

Most hatlines iv heard are when doing street SHOWS not just tricks. It relly wouldent work doing a hat line after every trick.

i could easily mold it into a show, i pretty much have one and then repeat it, or mix it up depending if i see the people are still there (from previsous shows)

Street shows usually have a beginning, a middle and an end. The hat line is mentioned in the middle and delivered at the end.

What you're doing is what I would call a "trickle" and that's fine too, but in the long run it probably won't pay as much as a well structured show with a collection at the end.

In the end, do whatever works for you. That's what really matters.

I have always liked Don Driver... I even have a couple of his dvds on busking and have had conversations with him on the topic as well. Hes a cool guy as well, sure he would be more than happy to talk.
I recommend any one interested in busking to pick up his dvd, on building a tip.

For those who don't know who DavidThe Crypic is referring to, it's Don Driver, who is also a member here. If anyone knows about building a crowd and turning a tip it would be him.

Nope, I am just crazy like that. They were talking about busking, I remember talking to you about busking and ordering your dvd a while back.
Your a great busker, so I figured if any one should be mentioned your one of them. Your dvd has helped me a lot in more ways than one.
And since I first talked to you, I liked your style, plus your just a cool guy.
On top of that, you were the first name to pop into my head.

:D 8)

I would recommend that DVD for any one interested in busking, dont know why I wasnt more clear in my first post.

I'd also like some "hatline" suggestions, or a link to a post which discusses this.
