Renaissance clothing seldom if ever had pockets. They hadn't been invented yet. That's why you see so many pouches on belts. Adapting to pouches is just one of the details you'll have to work out for your show.

alright, that makes sense. then i'll get a jerkin. hay dave v, do you know a place where i can buy a leather clasp that goes around my belt to hold the linking rings?

Again, Ren Faire vendors will have that. They sell them as mug holders and they usually cost about $5. One can be made easily out of a 6" or so piece of belt. Most belts sold at Faire are very long so you can just cut off a piece. Punch some holes so you can fold it in thirds, one third will be the belt loop and the other end needs some sort of button or knot so you can close and open the loop easily using a piece of leather thong to hold it all together.
