I thought I would ask, specifically, why you as a forum members like to do Kid Shows? There are many forms of magic and venues you could go into-- but why did you pick this particular one?

Responses appreciated.

I used to do kids shows because I like making kids laugh. However, I've cut them basically out anymore. I do very few private kids shows, because I hate doing them anymore. Parents around here always try to take advantage of me, by thinking I'm a babysitter, and I simply won't have that. Every kids show that I do now, is quite high priced, and comes with a very detailed contract.

I do like doing kids shows at schools though. Very organized, and the teachers don't try to take advantage of me at all. They are much more respectful, and they understand that what I'm doing isn't just some easy little thing.

Mmm, 3 people have voted its 'easy money.'

Thats sad. At least we know they wont make it.

I personally used to do it, because kids are the best. They are our future. I used to volunteer at a camp, so I worked with them alot. IT really tests your skill in presentation.

I've never done an official show, but I want to start off with kids shows because I like kids, since I'm a begginer I think it will be easier than an adult, just want to see them have fun. The money is nice, but it's not a real reason.

No, they aren't easier then adults. I do pretty much just adult shows now, and they, for the most part, are a lot easier. They have longer attention spans, my humor works a lot better, you can have more detailed effects, and there is just a lot you have to watch out with kids.

You are WRONG IGOR!!! Kids will try to see why the effect happens. They want to catch you. Even if you're perfect and don't flash they will yell out what the THINK is the secret. Their attention span is very short and you have to keep the show moving for 30 minutes. That is HARD to do with a bunch of kids, especially if their ages are different. Because if you have effects set up for the younger kids, the older kids get bored. Then if you have things that are for the older kids, the young ones go nuts on you.

Paddy, I agree with you. However, I have learned that it is most beneficial to pack a few things that will be entertaining to everyone. Back in the day, when I did birthday parties, I would always include some effects that the teenagers would enjoy and a few effects spread throughout the show that the adults would like, too. you have to remember that you're not just entertaining the little kids, but everyone at the party. If you do that, you will get repeat bookings and LOTS of referrals.

Since you aren't going to get rich doing it it can't be the money. They are more difficult to entertain than adults, can't be that one.
I really really enjoy watching them have fun because of what I have put together. I put enough into it that the Parents in attendance enjoy the show as well.
The needle thru the balloon I always bring up an adult and it always gets the Parents into it.
But the fun the little ones are having makes it all worth while.
I got off work this morning with very little sleep, went to my boy's football game and then scooted off to a large Block party. I wasn't in the mood and was really tired. Once I got there the kids energy and expectations of fun got me pumped up and ready to go. Love it.
