Hi all,

90% of questions i need answering are found through reading previous threads but a couple are elluding me.

Research into safety magic for schools?? I have found 1 book on David Ginn's website (Safety Magic for Children by Karl Wagner) but alas nothing else. The book looks quite dated and US specific but it's coming anyway. Do you know of any others? Do you know of any prop suppliers for this? I know MakMagic carry a couple to do with No Smoking but that's all i've found.

Sluggo, Kyle, - Did you make/adapt your own props for your shows? ( By the way NOGOTELLYELL is a stroke of genius - write a book !)

Majicgeorge, - Do you know of any UK based safety shows doing the rounds? I can't find any.

Couple of extra questions:

Does anyone know of a review or video demo for a new trick by Cody S. Fisher called "Three Kid Monte" ? It's available at Hocus Pocus. I'm looking for a UK friendly version of the Vanishing Bandanna. Most kids here don't know what a bandanna is til they are a teenager. I know i should really put this in the "Trick Review" section but unless it's "this months big thing", i probably wouldn't get a reply. Any informative reply i did get would probably come from you guys and girls anyway!

Finally,

If i purchased, say the ShadowBox illusion and the Asrah, would i receive two D******ve B**es and just the extra helpful foulard for the Asrah? Could i just buy the DB and adapt?

As previously mentioned, this could have been put into the "Stage Section" but the same "informative" people would reply. Why start three topics to get replies from the same posters?? As you can see, i'm post-count greedy! :D

Please don't feel these questions are person specific. Any and all answers are greatly appreciated.

I made and adapted my props for the safety and drug awareness show. The NOGOTELLYELL was actually developed by Ron Connley who wrote a book on performing saftey and drug magic for children titled "Drugs, Strangers, and other Dangers". It is a great book and source for safety magic. I only used a few effects thoughts from the book...but the rest is great for ideas.

Connley gave me permission to use the NOGOTELLYELL word and message, and I thank him for it. I have some great stories that took place after the show had been presented to school concerning things children turned in and started to notice...

One of the shows actually led to the capture of a pedophile who the children caught taking pictures of them on the playground...they told the teachers (Whom I might add didn't even notice) and the teachers called the police. The man was arrested and when his computer was searched, they found that he hosted a child pornography web site! The teachers asked the kids how they knew what to do and their response was "The magician said that anytime a stranger is around to stay away...and if he is doing something strange, to get away and tell somebody!"

the school called me and told me this story...and since then, they have booked me six times! The story shocked me and made me feel great about the show in that it had actually helped somebody.

About the illusions you mentioned...I didn't quite understand your question because of the abbrevation (Probably inserted by a moderater)...ask it one more time.

Thanks for the reply Kyle.

I've tracked that book you mentioned down to Hanks and will get it soon.

Great story!! Just that one guy you've taken off the streets is worth every safety show you do. There are probably many other avoidances due to the precautions you've instilled throughout your shows. Good on ya!!

Sorry, i edited the DB myself (not a mod) as the title can actually expose how some of these effects work (sort of). LOL I know what i mean anyway. :D

Have you ever heard of variations of the Vanishing Bandanna produced? That style of effect?

The book Kyle mentioned is pretty decent and worth getting. The Capt. Wagner book is outdated and I didn't get much from it.
Depending on your topic you can get ideas from a number of resources from the net.
The why be a bully show is from stats and ideas from several books and stats received from the net.
The Fire safety show I got from the National Fire site and the fact of being a 22 year member of the Cincy Fire Dept.
I used magic effects that I already had and made a safety message out of them. It takes lots of imagination and practice.
Of course there other props you have to get to custom design your effects.
The square circle, change bag and even the TT is used in the shows to demostrate safety themes.
I also use a ventriloquist figure to 'punch' home the safety points of interest.
Schools is really hard to break into but once you do the word spreads.

For education type shows I.E. Reading, Math, bullying etc. Try didax.com they have all kinds of helpful material.

Most UK magicians, I know, who are doing safety shows tend to road safety shows.

Trevor Lewis has quite a few road safety effects in his various publications.
