I am working on a stage routine involving drinks, however while looking into the Appearing 8 Ft. Straw, I noticed that the pole was considerably cheaper and there was more description towards the product. I was just wondering if I could pass off a pole as a straw to save the money for another effect or should I just go ahead and purchase the straw?

1) Paint the pole like a straw

2) Simply buy the 8 ft. straw

I'm not sure it's on the site, but last I called they priced the poles and straws at the same rate.

I'm not sure you guys are understanding the quote I posted. It means that if you want to be a professional, you have to have professional props. And these do not come cheap. If you need an 8 ft. straw for your act... get an 8 ft. straw. Don't paint an 8 ft pole just because it's cheaper... it won't look nearly as good.

What Gazzo meant is that, if you need to spend the extra few dollars to get better equipment, do it. Having a homemade product instead of a professionally made one is worth the extra $10. Typically, he's right.

If a prop is going to cost $5 to build and $10 to buy, it becomes a question of functionality. Will the one you make work as well, look as good? Maybe, maybe not.

Now, do you need an RNT2 Chop cup vs. A spun aluminum one to be a professional? No. The audience doesn't know the difference, and the more expensive prop doesn't enhance the magical experience.

well...it depends on what kind of act you do. I do a comedy act, and my full convention act only consists of about $30 worth of materials....

comedy magicians can afford to be cheap...because sometimes it's funnier!

The pole looks like it's made of wood, and it can't be painted. The best thing to do is simply invest in the straw and be done with it.

I'd just go for the straw but it's up to you. If you CAN'T afford it, get the pole.
