How many tricks will add up to 30 in your estimation. I know it depends on how fast i do it but how long would each trick last? 5 trick for 6 minutes each?
Are cards appropriate for 7-10 age group

your estimation was good, why are you asking if you know? you could mabey do 6 or 7 tricks but you never want to kram a show, arent as appropriate mabey for kids a bit older than that.

You are obviously NOT a kid show performer. What are the questions for?

I suggest you get a couple of books on the subject of kids magic and/or DVDs. You could also search the forum, under the kids section, to find more answers.

As for how many effects for a 30 minute show, it's up to you. I could use one effect and perform a whole show surrounding it. 5 effects seems nice though. As long as you can present them professionally in that amount of time.

As for card tricks, I say stay away from them. Well at least for a kids show.

He uses a regular deck of cards. The whole routine is just a simple force and the kids come up to help him. He brings up 2 or 3 kids which of course can't get the right card. When he brings up the last kid she get it right but the whole audience says it's wrong. He then proves to the kids that it is the correct card. How, I won't go into but it is a great effect that runs for at least 5 minutes and every kid stays interested and has a good time.

In fact he says in his closing comments that he tells the parents not to expect quiet during the party. He warns them that the kids will be LOUD!!!! and they are, and they all have fun, even the magician.
