In my recent show I used a TT in my vanishing/reappearing silk routine, and the second I started stuffing the silk into my fist they started screaming - "It's a fake thumb!" I guess it's because just about any magic set a kid receives has a TT in it, and they relate a vanishing silk with a TT. Any ideas on how to prove you have no TT?

Kick steal onto a finger, universal pull, or move on. I've heard a great out where when the thumb is called out to say you're right but I odn't need it anyway, and then universal pull the thing, and then move on. They'll never figure that out.

I was thinking about using my universal pull, but I make it reappear in a kid's shoe.

When putting the silk into the tip, use your FINGER, not your thumb. When loaded push the open end of the tip so it comes out between your fingertips and the heel of your palm. (That side of the hand is obviously facing you, not the little urchins. (being funny don't get upset) Then you can slip your thumb into the tip and as you show your hand the silk is gone. When they yell out about a false thumb you say "I put the silk in with my fingers, you never saw me use my thumb for anything so how could I use a false thumb if I didn't use a thumb?"

Works every time.

if your routine is entertaining then the method doesn’t matter. They will be having to much fun to even care.

I use the same subtlety Paddy uses. Although I don't refer to it but leave it as an unspoken convincer (I don't seem to get anywhere if I argue, all be it logically, with them).

About 5 years ago i got annoyed with kids shouting out about TTs. I didn't flash it but they just knew about it so shouted it out. I came up with a simple bit of business and have avoided any mention of TTs ever since. (that's about 1700 shows!!). I use the sucker principle as a form of misdirection while being sure to credit the helper with the magic before the reveal hence taking the sting from the sucker.

As you know I have Seriously Silly, and that's where I got the idea for the routine from.

Ages 4-9, and some 10 year olds.

Mostly the boys were screaming out "Fake Thumb"!

I don't know your presentation, but I'd like to throw this out there:
Never present it as a silk vanish. It's a game, it needs to be a game to the kids.

As paddy suggested, use your fingers, not your thumb.

As well as Paddy's advice, there's a really nice TT ditch that I can't place right now. It's taught on Hit the Road with Wilson and Asher by Alain Nu and also in the Aspirazu Coin Vanish.

I have used a TT in my kids shows for years, and never has anyone caught onto it. IF you were caught, it is more than likely because you were using it incorrectly. Research the proper use of a TT and apply the information you discover.

That's the best piece of advice I've ever read here.

also never show your fingers while wearing it in profile. It makes your thumb look bigger and difference is color between the TT and your thumb is too greaat you hold your hand palm out and thumb pointing at the audience. that way your thumb is foreshortend and you can't tell how long it is

That's the way I always wear my TT.
