Just say hi, talk a bit, and then pull them out of your mouth.

Kids go crazy.

Act like you are choking take a drink of water cough a couple of times and then pull it from your mouth. You can then place them into a dove pan and change to something else, or just produce a dove from them. That is what I do with them.

After I perform the 'swallowing balloon' effect, I pretend like I'm drinking some water from a styrofoam cup to wash it down, only to load the mouthcoil.

If you can't figure out what to do with mouth coils, I can't say that there's much hope for you as a kid's magician.

If you really are desperate and can't figure out what to do with them, there is actually a booklet available with tips and tricks with mouth coils.

This might come as a surprise...but it's actually called "The Mouth Coils Book". Google it.

I used to go up to a kid at a birthday party or on the street, and tell them to hold still...and that "their shirt tag was sticking out."

I would have a lot of fun pulling the coil as if it was the shirt tag, and this usually gets lots of laughs.

I thought that up many years ago, and it never fails to entertain. I keep pulling the coil out about medium speed, while pattering to effect of.."hold on I'll get it....man this one heck of a difficult tag you got there!" it is funny to see the kid reaching back checking their tag afterwards

This man, he went out of business a little while ago, crazy into mouthcoils and all those streamers. Well He had this tiny tiny bag. And you stick a mouthcoil, a small apearing wand, and a coin a little smaller than the bag in their. Then YOu pull out your coin because that is what you keep in your moneybag. Then you pull out your appearing wand from your money bag because yoru a magician and you pull some magic to get some real money going. Then you pull out a long money coil. SO FUNNY!

I wish I still did magic : (

-thank you

I do not put anything in my mouth at kids shows if there are any kids 5 or under. Kids want to imitate and they will put things in their mouths and pull them out to be like you. I use mouthcoils, but I hide them in my hand and borrow a kids shoe and pull the streamers out of the borrowed shoe. It plays just as big as from the mouth.

Greatscot makes a good point. It's unfortunate that mouth coils are named the way they are. One of the worst things you can do with a mouth coil is put it in your mouth!

I would never do a balloon swallowing effect at a children's birthday party.

Thanks Dave. I was held back by the example of showing 4 or 5 year olds to put things in their mouth. Shoe it is. :)
